Robert WILTON born 22 July 1599 educated at Wymondham Grammar School and
Christ’s College Cambridge entered Gray’s Inn 1617
In the Civil War he was a member of the County Committee,
was a Colonel of foot in the Parliamentarian army, a justice of the peace and
was elected a Member of Parliament in 1654 and 1656
When Wilby church was burnt in 1633 he was instrumental in
raising money for the reparations
He built and endowed an Almshouse “for three of the poor
and honest sort of people of the parish of Wilby”, now demolished]
