To the memory of John HEATON Esq [of London]/ who together with Martha his wife/ lies deposited in a vault/ under a black marble tombstone/ on the left hand beneath this monument/ John HEATON born 10th Feb 1696 OS/ died the 4th and on the 12th Dec 1779 there interred/ Martha his wife died the 15th Dec 1743/ aged 33 years/ her remains were removed/ from the South east corner of the church/ and there deposited with her husbands/ the 12th Dec 1779

In memory of/ the Rev Houghton SPENCER/ late perpetual curate/ of Crimplesham in the/ County of Norfolk and for/ many years an inhabitant/ of this parish who departed/ this life January 5 AD 1850/ aged 71 years/ also of Amelia Sarah his/ wife who died June 3 AD/ 1851 aged 63 years/ Their remains are deposited/ in the centre of the chancel/ of this church/ Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord

In memory of/ Frances Eliza third daughter of/ the Revnd James ROYLE/ (minister of this parish)/ and Elizabeth his wife/ who died 23rd December 1834/ aged 17 years/ and is interred beneath this tablet/ also her brother and sister/ Theodore James and Emily (twins)/ who died in their infancy

In memory of/ Mrs Sarah ADAMSON/ who died April the 3th 1791/ aged 31 years/ She left the sum of L300 to Philip BELL vicar/ of Stow Bardolf Joseph FORBY rector of Fincham/ & William HINTON rector of Northwold & to/ their respective successors rectors or vicars upon/ trust to place out at interest in the public funds/ in their names – the interest money arising from/ the same to be disposed of at their discretion/ upon the 25th day of February in every year/ amongst the poor of the parish of Wereham/ who are not possessed of more than L10 p annum/ and who do not receive relief or collection from the said parish or any other

In memory of/ Jonathan BAXTER gent/ born October 1741 OS/ died October 17th and on the/ 24th October was here interr’d/ Anno Dom 1817/ Elizabeth the wife of/ Jona BAXTER/ who departed this life/ December 11th 1807/ aged 59 years/ Victorious death thohoun’t welcome unto me/ I’m free to quit this life of misery/ thou bring’st no terror but a kind release/ to those who lived in pain and die in peace/ then since through my short span of time I’ve run/ dear Lord receive my soul thy will be done/ Their grand daughter/ Mary Ursula Elizabeth/ the inestimable/ (only daughter of)/ Henry Bence and Elizabeth MASON/ born April 19th 1815 died August 6th 1833/ and on the 16th here interred

Henry Bence MASON/ forty year church warden/ born at Bury St Edmund 29 Feb 1784/ died 18 interred beneath 26 Sept 1852/ Elizabeth wife of/ Henry Bence MASON/ and only child of the late Jonathan &/ Elizabeth BAXTER of the White House/ in this parish born 1st Feb 1784/ died 9th interred 16th Jan 1848/ Humble Christian an exemplary/ daughter, wife and mother

In a vault near this place/ lies interred the body of Christopher ADAMSON/ of this parish gentleman who died 25th September 1744/ aged 71 years/ also the body of Martha/ widow and relict of the said Christopher ADAMSON/ who died the 24th March 1765 aged 93 years/ in the same vault lies the body of Martha the wife of/ John HEATON of London gent and daughter of the above named/ Christopher ADAMSON and Martha his wife who died the/ 15th Decr 1743 aged 33 years her remains were on the 12th of Decr 1779/ removed to the chancel of this church and their[sic] deposited in a vault/ with those of her husband/ in the same vault lies the body of Susanna the daughter of/ Mr John CRUTCHFIELD (citizen of London) and Susanna his wife/ and wife of Benjamin ADAMSON one of the sons of the above named/ Christopher ADAMSON and Martha his wife who died/ the 25th March 1742 aged 27 years/ here also lies interred Alice the second wife of/ Benjamin ADAMSON one of the two daughters and coheiresses/ of the late Sir Robert WESTLEY knight alderman of the City/ of London and Lord Mayor in the year 1744 who died the/ 28th October 1772 aged 60 years/ also the body of Elizabeth the wife of/ Christopher ADAMSON of this parish gentleman who died/ 30th October 1778 aged 80 years/ also the remains of the said Christopher ADAMSON/ husband of the said Elizabeth who died the 23rd April 1786/ aged 85 years/

C011 [Tablet on south wall] In memory of/ Richard ADAMSON Esquire bachelor/ youngest son of Christopher and Martha ADAMSON/ many years an eminent merchant at Stockholm/ he died February the 12th 1800 at Bury St Edmunds aged 83 years/ In friendship his attachments were strong/ as a relative he was kind and affectionate/ to his servants he proved himself a generous master/ and to the poor a liberal benefactor/ amongst other charitable donations he left the annual interest/ of 300 pounds to the poor of his native parish of Wereham/ his last moments were spent in the pious exercise of prayer to God/ and he departed this life in perfect resignation to the divine will/ resting his hopes of an happy immortality/ on the merits of his Redeemer

C012 [Tablet on south wall] In a vault near this place/ lieth interred the body of/ Christopher ADAMSON Esq/ of this parish/ who departed this life April 23rd 1786/ aged 85 years/ also of Elizabeth ADAMSON wife/ of the said Christopher ADAMSON/ and daughter of James ATTHILL gent/ and Mary his wife/ (of Foulsham in this County)/ who departed this life October 30th 1778/ aged 77 years/ also of Mary the daughter of the aforesaid/ Christopher & Elizabeth ADAMSON/ who departed this life November 23rd 1762/ aged 31 years

C013 In memory of John WHAITE/ formerly of Cavenham House/ in this parish/ farmer/ who died at Hockwold in this county/ on the 17th day of Feby 1827 leaving the sum of/ one hundred pounds to be disposed of (at the discretion/ of his executor the Reverend William NEWCOME/ of Hockwold aforesaid) for the benefit of/ the poor inhabitants of this parish of which said sum/ (as is fully described in the terrier) part was paid/ for duty part distributed to the poor and the balance/ invested in the purchase of one hundred pound stock/ in the 3 per cent consols the interest of which/ is annually distributed/ by the minister and churchwardens [BR entry for John not found at either Wereham or Hockwold]

C015 [Tablet on west wall in south west corner] In memory of John HOUCHEN gentleman many years an inhabitant of this parish/ who died on the 15th day of May 1857 aged 67 years/ and is interred in a vault beneath/ Arthur HOUCHEN 1st Royal Dragoons/ died in Turkey Octr 1854 aged 20 years/ also of Susanna Brettingham widow of the above John HOUCHEN/ who died 13th July 1875 aged 80 years

In/ memory of/ Jonathan BAXTER/ of the white House/ in this parish gentleman/ born at Heckington in/ Lincolnshire in the year 1740/ died at his residence the 17th and/ interred by the side of his wife in/ north aisle of this church the/ 24th October 1817/ Elizabeth his wife/ died the 11th Dec 1807 ÆT 59 years/ Mary Ursula Elizabeth/ the inestimable and only daughter/ of Henry Bence MASON and/ Elizabeth his wife born the 19th April/ 1815 died the 6th and interred near/ her grand parents the 16th August 1833/ the following extract copied by her/ from a sermon by the Rev C BRADLEY/ Ex Ch 33 v 18 was found shortly after/ her death/ O let me see that the riches of thy/ goodness can reach to me that thy/ power will befriend and not destroy/ me that thy faithfulness is pledged to/ save and not condemn thy servant that/ my crimson sins are washed away by/ thy mercy that this guilty soul of/ mine has found a pardon/ that this/ vile heart is thine/ Jonathan MASON/ born Aug 3rd 1747 died 29th Nov/ and interred beneath 1st Dec 1833/ Ursula his widow/ daughter of Ed BRANWHITE of Lavenham/ Suffolk died the 6th and interred/ the 12th June 1814 aged 86 years/ Edward their infant son died Decbr 1789

In/ memory of/ Henry Bence MASON/ of the White House/ born at Bury St Edmunds/ the 29th Feb 1781 died the 18th and interred by the side of his wife/ the 26th Sep 1852/ Shortly before his demise he/ directed his son to expend £20 in/ the improvement of this church of/ which he had filled the office of/ warden from 1812/ also to set apart/ £100 for the poor of this parish for/ ever the interest of which has/ been secured by a rent charge of £5/ on land called the Ten Acres next/ Stone Drove to be distributed/ amongst certain of the labouring/ poor being 65 years of age and/ upwards on the last day of Feb/ annually at the discrimination of the/ minister and others, grantees by/ deed enrolled in Chancery Feb 1853/ Elizabeth his wife/ only child of John & Elizth BAXTER/ born the first of Feb 1784 died the 9th/ and interred in this church/ the 15th Jan 1848/ Mark the christian’s grave you/ who by Gods mercy yet have time/ place your trust in him through/ a Saviour’s love that as you enter/ upon eternity you may exclaim/ with her “I mount I fly” where/ death hath no sting the grave/ no victory
